The Library Company of Philadelphia, PA has a extension collection of photos and other items related to African-Americans. There are certificates of marriages, journals, portrait albums, scrapbooks, as well as art work done by African-Americans – most from and around the Philadelphia area covering decades.

There are six different collections, all related to African-Americans: Albums, Life in Philadelphia, political cartoons (some dating back to 1820s), photos (which includes neighborhoods and businesses), prints / drawings, and Stevens-Cogdell / Sanders-Venning Family Photograph Album.

You can browse each of the collections, opening up different albums to view. Each is labeled. If you find one of interest, click on it and the tools are at the top right to enlarge the image. You can right click on it to save it to your computer.

Even if you didn’t have family living in the Pennsylvania or neighboring states; this extension collection is worth viewing.
