One of the important research sources are found in the family Bibles – the record pages of births-marriages and deaths. Here one or more family members over the years the Bible was held by the family made a written record (sometimes the only record) of major family events such as birth dates, marriage ceremonies and death dates along with those individual’s full names.
The DAR – Daughters of the American Revolution – Genealogical Research section that is online has now placed a search box so people can search some of the more 40,000 family Bible records in their collection.
Place a surname, keeping in mind spelling variations. Any listing with that family name — including a woman marrying into a family, her maiden name would be written also. You can then click the page number to view all the names listed for the record page.
It is a transcription of the Bible record rather than the scanned image of the page. Once you know that a specific family Bible is available you then could contact DAR headquarters in Washington, DC about getting a digital copy.
