Celebrities on ‘WDYTYA’ and ‘Finding Your Roots’



Who Do You Think You AreThere is nothing better than watching professional genealogists in action to not only inspire you, but also provide that extra incentive for you to continue on your own family tree research. Starting on February 3rd, a Friday night at 8 p.m. Eastern and 7 p.m. Central, the Who Do You Think You Are? celebrity originated genealogical NBC network show begins its third season. The lineup of twelve notables and their family lineage are Rita Wilson, Martin Sheen, Paula Deen, Jason Sudeikis, Helen Hunt, Jerome Bettis, Marisa Tomei, Rashida Jones, Edie Falco, Blair Underwood, Rob Lowe and Reba McEntire.

As WDYTYA continues through February, beginning on March 25, a Sunday night genealogical research program begins it fourth season.  On PBS stations the show Finding Your Roots will be hosted by historian Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. in a ten-part series.  Here two celebrities will be featured each week. The lineup of well-known celebrities are from show business, journalism, government and music.

Those appearing on Finding Your Roots for the new season are Kyra Sedewick, Rick Warren, Cory Booker, Kevin Bacon, Robert Downey, Jr., Michelle Rodriguez, Tyra Banks, Margaret Cho, Martha Stewart, Condoleezza Rice, Yasir Qadhi, Samuel L. Jackson, Harry Connick, Jr., Angela Buchdahl, Branford Marsalis, John Legend, Geoffrey Canada, Sanhay Gupta, John Lewis and Barbara Walters.

So both series have some fascinating celebrities who may uncovering  intriguing details about their ancestors on the family tree.  Following the methods and resources for the investigation and then observing each celebrity’s reaction to what is learned will keep everyone’s interest.  There just might be a ‘skeleton’ or two in someone’s closet.
