Civil War Photos

The US Army Heritage & Education Center (USAHEC) has online a very unique collection of Civil War soldiers, regiments, in digital format. Since the goal of the USAHEC is to preserve the contribution of soldiers in America back to colonial times they made sure the Civil War collection was as complete as possible. There are new images added to the collection, which are featured to the right side of the page.

You can browse the images using the sliding device below the images. Click on any of interest to see it enlarged along with any information about the unit, location or the people in the photo. Use the bottom “download’ on the upper right side if you want a digital copy of the photo.

There is a search box at the top left side to place a surname or keyword, especially of a certain battle. Not all the photos have been made digital yet, but the index listing (which has some 28,000 items) what the USAHEC does have can be used to secure a copy of the photo from them.
