Our ancestors enjoyed Halloween – All Hallows’ Eve, especially the dressing up in costumes, this included adults even more than children. There were no special store purchased costumes, instead one used what they had around the house to create the most scariest outfit they could. For sure they covered their face or whole head with just barely a slit for the eyes.
Today’s costumes for children and adults are really quite tame compared to what people did 100 years ago. There was no costume of popular movie or television characters, instead the Halloween parties decades ago were filled with terrifying ghouls, burglars, creepy creatures and demons. On this site are some 60 photos of vintage homemade costumes, some very creative.
