Free Scanning Photos - FamilySearch

You have been putting off scanning those treasured family photos and documents. Now FamilySearch.org has made it very easy for everyone to achieve this very needed preservation.  scanning-3

At the over 2,800 Family History Centers across North America, FamilySearch has placed the new Lexmark MFPS scanners. They are very simple to operate and now make it very easy for anyone to scan a whole box full of family photos and records. These scanned images can then be placed on your own thumb drive (flash drive) so you have them to then place on your own home computer. You can also place them directly into your free family FamilySearch.org account with your family tree. Attach the photos to individual family members along with the supporting document images.

You can even crop and label all the scanned items and then share with other family members. Once you begin and share, encourage other family members to do the same, going to their own local Family History Center. There well could be a treasure chest of unseen photos and records to be discovered.

This all free for anyone to use at their local Family History Center, located all across the country.

On the homepage for FamilySearch.org, go to the lower left bottom corner and click on ‘Family History Centers’ and find the nearest one to you. They have varied hours to fit most people’s schedules. There are volunteers always available to help get you started.

This is a great fun project to do with your children or grandchildren during the summer months.
