Kenton County Public Library Genealogy Events - December 2016

It was the only Star Ranked library in the Commonwealth of Kentucky by the publication Library Journal in 2013 and 2014. The library is offering genealogy classes in December of 2016.

The Kenton County Public Library main branch is located in Independence, Kentucky. There is also Kenton County Public Library located in Covington, Kentucky. The genealogy classes will be held in the Local History Department at the Kenton County Public Library that is located in Covington, Kentucky.

Just getting started on a family history project or looking for help with a genealogy “brick wall”? Call the Local History & Genealogy Department and reserve a one-hour session to discuss resources and search engines.

December 19, 2016: “Genealogy Tech: Using Fold3”
Learn about the military and other records to be found in this database.

December 21, 2016: “Genealogy Tech: Using Ancestry Library Edition”
Learn about the many resources available through Ancestry.

December 30, 2016: “Genealogy Tech: Using FamilySearch”
Learn about the many resources available through Ancestry.

The Kenton Public Library has plenty of genealogy resources. Some of those resources include:

* Faces & Places – Over 90,000 photographs from Northern Kentucky

* geNKY – Northern Kentucky Genealogy Database – It has family and local resources.

* Newspapers – NKY Newspaper Index, Enquirer, Post

* Research Tools – Ancestry, HeritageQuest, NKY specific databases and more

* Special Collections – Images, oral histories, maps, etc.

* Regional History – Biographies, community history and historical societies

* Archive Collections – family papers, personal papers, and organizational records from NKY

It is possible for people who are not local to request further information from the Kenton County Public Library, or to request copies. If you do not have a library card with them, do not live in the area, or are unable to visit their facility, they will answer questions on an “as-received” basis for a fee. The fees range from $5 to $20+, depending on the amount of detail provided by the patron as well as the amount of staff time required to complete the request.
