Midwest Genealogy Center Offers March Activities



The Midwest Genealogy Center is located in Independence, Missouri. It is part of the Mid-Continent Public Library, which is the largest library system in the metropolitan area in Missouri. The Midwest Genealogy Center is offering March activities for genealogists and family historians.

March 2, 2017: “Voices from Ellis Island” In this one-person show, Pippa White tells the exciting stories of seven immigrants who made their way through Ellis Island in the early part of the 20th Century. Based on interviews and memoirs, these fascinating stories are amusing, frightening, inspiring, and true.

March 2, 2017: “Genealogy Scrapbooking Club” This new club works together to compile and organize their family heirlooms, pictures, family stories, and family trees in heritage album formats. Create a lasting legacy for your family.

March 4, 2017: “Midwest Genealogy Center’s Spring Seminar 2017: The Legal Genealogist”
This day-long event features Judy Russell “The Legal Genealogist”. It will take place at Adam’s Pointe Conference Center. There will be four fascinating lectures. Registration fee is $60 and includes a buffet lunch.

March 7, 2017: “How to Date Old Photographs” This class will give you tips on using items in the photograph, as well as the photograph itself, to determine the time period in which it was taken. Bring one or two photographs for their team to help you date.

March 8, 2017: “Introduction to Internet Genealogy” This class focuses on evaluating websites and will introduce some of the best genealogy sites on the internet.

March 9, 2017: “Using Findmypast” Learn how to search records from Findmypast.com. Records include US and UK censuses, Irish records, and parish records from England and Wales.

March 15, 2017: “Beginning Ancestry Library Edition” Research your family history with Ancestry Library Edition. Search the US Federal Census from 1790 to 1940 as well as immigration, vital, military, court, church, and ethnic records.

March 15, 2017: “Index It!” Discover the fun of indexing as you identify vital information necessary for making family tree connections. This program is for ages 11-18. There will be snacks provided.

March 16, 2017: “Discover Your English Ancestors Online” Join genealogist Claire Brisson-Banks for a look at several English genealogy websites, as well as learn helpful tips for using them in your research.

March 17, 2017: “Beginning Genealogy” Find out the fundamentals of beginning your genealogical research project. This class discusses organization, census information, vital records, and where to look for information.
