Princess Diana's Family Tree



Princess Diana was beloved by many. She died in a car crash on August 31, 1997. Twenty years later, her admirers planned to make a pilgrimage to her burial site at Althorp, which is her childhood home in Northamptonshire, England. Here is a brief look into Princess Diana’s family tree.

Diana Spencer was born on July 1, 1961. Her father was Edward John Spencer, Vicount Althorp. Her mother was Frances Ruth Burke Roche, Viscountess Althorp. Diana was not an only child.

Elizabeth Sarah Lavinia McCorqodale (Spencer) was born on March 19, 1955. She is one of Diana’s sisters. Cynthia Jane Fellowes (Spencer), Baroness Fellows was born on February 11, 1957. She is also Diana’s sister. John Spencer was born on January 12, 1960 (and died later that day). Diana Spencer was born in 1961. Charles Edward Maurice Spencer was born on May 20, 1964. He is Diana’s brother.

Diana’s parents divorced when she was young, and her father got custody of the children. In 1975, Diana’s father, Edward John Spencer, inherited the title Earl of Spencer. As a result, Diana became Lady Diana Spencer. As a child, Diana reportedly played with Prince Andrew (born 1960) and Prince Edward (born 1964). In 1975, Diana became acquainted with Andrew and Edward’s older brother – Prince Charles.

Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, was born in 1948. They got married on July 29, 1981, and Lady Diana Spencer got the title of Princess of Wales. The ceremony was broadcast on television around the world, with millions of people tuning in.

Charles and Diana had two sons. Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales was born on June 21,1982. Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales (known as “Prince Harry”) was born on September 15, 1984. The line of succession to the throne placed Prince William ahead of his father, Prince Charles.

In December of 1992, it was publicly announced by the British Prime Minister John Major that Charles and Diana were separating. The divorce was finalized in 1996. Princess Diana died as a result of a car crash on August 31, 1997.

Prince William married Kate Middleton on April 29, 2011. Queen Elizabeth II (Prince William’s grandmother) gave her grandson the title William, Duke of Cambridge (and Earl of Stratherarn, and Baron Carrickfergus) shortly before his marriage to Kate Middleton. Kate received the title Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn and Lady Carrickfergus.

William and Kate had children. George Alexander Louis, “His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge” was born on July 22, 2013. Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born on May 2, 2015.
