Something Special about December?

There is much being talked about that December 2012 has some special dates on certain days of the week that make it super usual. The month of December 2012 does have 5 Saturdays, 5 Sundays, and 5 Mondays. Boy, is that occurrence strange, unusual, something our ancestors never witnessed?

No, not by a long shot. In fact the last happening was in December 2007 with the same 5 Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. Then the next similar occurrence will take place in December 2018.

In fact, any month that has 31 days will have three consecutive days that occur five times in the month. This is actually a common event in the calendar and occur each and every year. Some of the other Decembers in recent years with the same set up were in 2001, 1990 and 1984.

It is not just the month of December. Other months can have 5 certain days of the week but with a different combination. The month of October 2011 had 5 Saturdays, 5 Sundays, and 5 Mondays as well as July 2011 and May 2011. Look at October 2010 there were 5 Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. The month of August in 2010 had 5 Sundays, 5 Mondays and 5 Tuesdays – which will all occur again in 2021, 2027 and 2032.

So having three days of the week with five days within one month is not that strange, our ancestors experienced the same arrangement of days. Instead it offers you five full weekends this December to enjoy your favorite hobbies or activities. It just might be a good idea to use a couple of those weekends to work on your family tree.
