The annual event is hosted by FamilySearch, one of the most well known genealogy websites. Videos from RootsTech 2016 are now available.

RootsTech takes place in Salt Lake City, Utah, every year. The conference is a multi-day event that includes world-class speakers, interesting entertainment, and over 200 engaging classes for genealogists and family historians to learn useful things from. There is also a focus on technology that relates in some way to genealogy or family history.

FamilySearch is a popular genealogy website that is provided as a service by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is made available, for free, to anyone who wants to use the website. A person does not have to be Mormon in order to use FamilySearch.

Were you unable to attend RootsTech 2016? It is still possible to view some videos of the events that took place. A good place to start is with the RootsTech 2016 Video Archive. There are a total of 29 videos to choose from. This selection of RootsTech 2016 videos can be watched by anyone who is interested in them – including people who did not attend RootsTech 2016.

You might want to start with the Keynote videos. Three of them feature Keynote speakers from Thursday: Steve Rockwood (CEO of FamilySearch International), Paula Madison (the filmmaker of “Finding Samuel Lowe: From Harlem to China”) and Bruce Feiler (a bestselling author and New York Times columnist). There is also a video of a Friday Keynote featuring David Isay (founder of StoryCorps) and a video of a Saturday Keynote featuring Michael Leavitt (former Governor of Utah).

There are also videos that feature the talks given by some big names in genealogy. These videos include: A.J. Jacobs (the man behind the World’s Largest Family Reunion), Amy Crow (professional genealogist) and Lisa Louise Cooke (Genealogy Gems podcast).

Another resource for videos from RootsTech 2016 is at the FamilySearch website. They have a small 2016 Video Archive. It includes four videos that appear to be downloadable.

One of the videos is of the Opening General Session with Elder Dale G. Renlund, Sister Ruth L. Renlund and Ashley Renlund. Another is a Family History Discussion with Sister Sheri L. Dew and Sister Wendy W. Nelson. The third video is titled “Family Session 2016” and it features Sister Rosemary M. Wixom and Brother Stephen W. Owen. The fourth video is of a Youth and Family Session 2016, and it features Britain Covey and Taysom Hill.
