Every year, Family Tree Magazine puts together an extensive list of the very best genealogy websites and blogs. They have released a list of the 100 Best Websites for Genealogy in 2015. (The 2016 list will probably appear sometime in the Summer of 2016.)

Family Tree Magazine selected Ancestry Insider as one of the Best Genealogy Blogs of 2015. To be clear, the Ancestry Insider blog is not one that is officially part of Ancestry.com.

Instead, it is a blog that is run by “The Ancestry Insider” who has been an insider at both Ancestry.com and FamilySearch in the past. The Ancestry Insider blog provides “the unofficial, unauthorized, view of Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org. The Ancestry Insider reports on, defends, and constructively criticizes these two websites and associated topics.” It is, without a doubt, a very interesting genealogy blog!

Family Tree Magazine picked a social media website that you might not be familiar with as one of the Best Social Media Genealogy Websites of 2015. It is called Family.Me. It is a private social network where families can come together to discover, share, and preserve their memories.

You and your family can use Family.Me to put together a family tree. You can import relatives to Family.Me from your social networks. Together, you and your family can create and revise family blogs. You can also share photos, records, stories, and more. It’s sort of like Facebook but without all the non-genealogy “clutter”.

Mapping the Freedmen’s Bureau is among the websites selected by Family Tree Magazine as one of the Best Websites for Finding African American Ancestry of 2015. The purpose of the website is to point out the many places that affected the newly freed survivors of slavery.

Maps on the website can show you where Freedmen’s Bureau offices were located. You can also find the locations of Freedman’s Savings Bank, Freedmen schools, contraband camps, and the location of battle sites where men who were the the US Colored Troops fought. Family Tree Magazine picked Evernote as one of the Best Online Genealogy Tools of 2015. Evernote was not specifically made for the purpose of genealogy. Instead, it is a tool that people use when they want to jot down a quick note. It can be used to save photos, research notes, citations, and more. The things you put into Evernote can be shared between your computer, smartphone, and tablet.
