You're Invited to the Global Family Reunion

Big treesThere’s a family reunion scheduled for next summer and everyone’s invited to attend! It will be the world’s biggest family reunion. The Global Family Reunion was inspired by the work of author A. J. Jacobs. Will you be attending?

The Global Family Reunion will happen on June 6, 2015. It will take place on the site of the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Currently, that location is home to the New York Hall of Science, a huge science museum that can accommodate 5,000 people indoors or more than 10,000 people on its 11-acre outdoor space.

It costs $20.00 to attend. All proceed will go to battling Alzheimer’s. Those who have a proven connection to the world’s biggest family tree and who attend the Global Family Reunion will get a bracelet and be able to take part in the largest family photo in history. There are currently 77 million people who are included in the world’s biggest family tree. This is going to be a huge photo!

You may be wondering how it is possible that so many people are part of the same family. To fully understand, you need to start thinking of your family tree as a branch that connects to other people’s family trees. You also need to have a general understanding of how genetics work. Science today enables us to take a look at people’s DNA and identify who else they are related to.

Some of the partners for the Global Family Reunion are names that genealogists would recognize. MyHeritage, FamilySearch, 23andMe, FamilyTreeDNA and WikiTree are all partners. They are all popular genealogy websites that many genealogists use (or have at least taken a look at).

Morgan Spurlock, the man behind the “Supersize Me” documentary and the “30 Days” documentary series, will attend the Global Family Reunion. The event will become the subject of a documentary. There will also be many other celebrities that are going to be involved. George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush will “attend” via video. Other well known names will be giving presentations.

The big concept that one should take from the Global Family Reunion is that all of us are related. We are all part of one gigantic family of humans. That is something to keep in mind as we watch news reports about tragedies that are happening around the globe.

If you want to get more involved with this project, you can Join the Family. Email a full list of names of your grandparents and (if possible) great-grandparents to them. Find out what famous people you are related to! Visit their website to find out more information about how to do that.
