Genealogy.com

A genealogical web site maintained by Ancestry.com is Genealogy.com. It has been established for many years and offers researchers several options.

First, a family tree can be created and saved on the site. Next, there are numerous databases to do research online with Genealogy.com. Some of their long-standing databases include: World Family Tree, Genealogy Library, U. S. Census, International & Passenger Lists, and Family & Local Histories.

With the U. S. Census collection covering 1790 to 1930, there are 9 out of the 15 federal censuses which are indexed for locating names easier. With the International & Passenger Records there are passenger lists for all of America’s major Atlantic ports, plus European, British, and Canadian records. It has with this online database more than 22 million names. For the Family & Local Histories there are many family histories, local histories, and primary sources. Easily searched by name, location or publication the databases make it possible to uncover family facts in documents from all 50 states, Canada and the British Isles.

The Genealogy Library section has personal family histories, newspaper articles and other U.S.-focused resources including images from the 1850 U.S. Census and nearly every type of record. By finding names, dates, personal stories and other numerous details it enables the researcher to piece together an individual’s life story or trace a family through time. The searchable database contains over 300 million names and covers the entire U.S. from the 16th to the 20th century. The World Family Tree portion is a pedigree database and assists the researcher in putting together the family branches and to share that information with others.

Message boards are on the web site and named ‘GenForum’. With surnames, regional locations and a series of topics to select from one then a researcher can read and share all kinds of information with other family researchers. The opportunity is present to put one’s own query out and see if someone else is researching the same ancestors.

Added to the site is Virtual Cemetery, which is an electronic memorial to our ancestors and an invaluable source of genealogical information. One can search for family member’s cemetery listings or contribute other listings.

Genealogy.com has several membership plans. An annual gold membership includes all the online collections and Family Tree Maker Software. There is also the deluxe annual membership with several of the data collections. The basic annual membership has the Family Tree maker software and the Genealogy Library database.
