Sometimes the hardest part of getting started on your heritage scrapbook is when you lack the inspiration. With the busy lives we all have, it is hard to get excited about something that you can easily tell yourself is just a hobby, or something to do in your spare time. But, hopefully, a few tips on how you can inspire yourself will get you motivated to make heritage scrapbooking more of a priority!
Go to a Scrapbooking Store– Looking at supplies on the shelf can be overwhelming for some, but for me, it is always inspiring. Don’t go crazy buying a ton of supplies, instead, hand pick a few papers, and patterns that make you feel like creating something. If you search for papers and embellishments that you love, then you will feel more inspired to work with them later.
Pull out the Photos– This is a great way to get inspired. If you pull out those old photos that you need to scrap and look through them, this is a great way to get some ideas of how to scrap them. Don’t feel pressured to start chronologically. Instead, find a photo that inspires you. In scrapbooking your family history, it might be a photo that you have the most information about. Having more information will make it more fun to scrapbook.
Go on a treasure hunt– No, I don’t mean the looking for gold kind, I mean the looking for your family history kind. Maybe the inspiration you need is to find a story in your own family history that just has to be told. Start by working on finding that special link to your past, and once you do, you will want to share it with others. This will inspire you to pull out those photo archiving supplies and get busy!
Make it a Priority– If you are constantly saying to yourself that it is something that you can do only when you find the time, that time may never come. Instead, tell yourself that you have to set aside some time each week to scrapbook, or work on your family history with the ultimate goal of doing a scrapbook page. Look at your week, and plan in the time. Don’t schedule over it thinking it isn’t important. Instead, tell yourself that one day you may not be around to document this important family history, so it has to be a priority now!
Ask a friend to join you– Scrapbooking with a friend can be a great idea for a night out. It can also help you get the job done. When you scrapbook with others, you can share ideas, and supplies! It will also motivate you to do it again and again.
Getting the inspiration is sometimes the hardest part, so hopefully these ideas will help you get started, or at least get inspired to start today!
