A German surname, Auer it comes from the Old German term of ‘aue’ which referred to woods or a meadow. Variations in spelling Auer include Auers, Aur, Aurr, Auerr and Auerre. The Auer name originally came from the Bavaria region of Germany. Only in the city of London, England and Aberdeenshire, Scotland are their any number of Auer families. Within the United States early Auer families settled in the North and South Carolina, New York and Pennsylvanian colonies.
