Originally Beaumont were Old French terms of ‘beu’ and ‘mont’ which referred to a lovely or pleasant hill. With the French in England during the Norman invasion of 1066, the Beaumont name developed in Dorset and Gloucestershire. Various forms of the spelling for Beaumont include Beumond, Bellemont, Beaumount, Beamond, Beamonde, Beaumond, Beumond and Bewmont. In England the Beaumont surname became very popular but the greatest concentration is in Yorkshire and Lancashire counties. The Scottish counties of Midlothian, Fife and Lanarkshire have the higher percent of Beaumont families. In America the earliest Beaumont settlers were in Maryland and Connecticut colonies. by the 20th century many Beaumont families lived in New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, California, New Jersey, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin.
