A Spanish and Catalan surname. It refers to any of the numerous places in Spain and Portugal named Estrada. The word comes from estrada which means ‘road.’ In Latin it is stata  and from sternere which means ‘to strew or cover’, The surname is a term denoting a paved way. Estrada is considered one of most traditional surnames in Spain.
