An Irish surname, Quigley comes from the Gaelic term ’congeal’ which meant untidy or unkempt hair or person. Variations in spelling for Quigley include O’Quigg, Quigg, Quigly, O’Quigley, Cogley and MacQuigg. In County Mayo, Ireland the early Quigley families lived. In England many centered in the northern regions of Durham, Yorkshire and Lancashire counties. The Scottish regions with Quigley families were Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire.
