52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks: Love

52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks-Love You can find more genealogy blogs at FamilyTree.com.Have you been participating in the 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks themes from “No Story Too Small”? The themes are optional, so you can pick and choose which ones you want to do. Or, you can alter one and turn it into something more relevant to your genealogy research.

Week 7 of the “52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks” optional theme is “Love”. This topic fits right in with Valentine’s Day. Those of you who have old love letters that your ancestors wrote might want to transcribe them into a blog. Include a story about who that relative was, who the letter was from, and if their relationship was brief or long term. You could put together a family tree of that couple and their children.

A fun way to incorporate the “Love” theme into your genealogy blog would be to post old Valentine’s Day cards. People like to look at the really old ones and compare them to the ones people send today. Make sure to mention which ancestor received the Valentine, what year it was, and who sent it to them.

Another way to use the “Love” theme in your genealogy blog is to select a relative or ancestor that you feel especially close to. For some people, this person could be their mom or dad, or possibly a grandparent. Or, it could be an ancestor that you recently learned about, who died before you born, and who you feel a strong connection with.

Blog about all the ways that person makes you feel loved. Or, make the blog about the things you love about that person. Include some stories of warm, happy, memories you have of the person you selected.

You could use the “Love” theme to focus on an ancestor who had a whole lot of love to share. It is up to you how you want to interpret that. Share stories in your blog that describe the ways that relative or ancestor shared their love with others.

Maybe that person was the one who always made sure everyone had plenty of food to eat. Or, they could be a person who was an awesome parent to a whole lot of children (biological or adopted).

Maybe they were a teacher who taught academic lessons in ways that engaged their students. They might have been a doctor or nurse who gently helped people to heal. Your relative that ran a homeless shelter, a domestic violence shelter, or an animal shelter would be a good choice for this theme.

These are just a few ways that you can take the “Love” theme and run with it. If you have a different idea that will work better for you – go for it! Part of the fun with the weekly themes is that they are flexible and allow you to use your creativity.
