English Voter Registrations 1832-1932

SUFFRAGETTES

If you had ancestors living in England and Wales between 1832 and 1932, you will need to examine the Findmypast collection of about 220 million names of registered English voters as well as those in Wales. The records are part of the British Library and now online with Findmypast site. Searching can be done by using a person’s surname and given names, by the polling district, or the county level. When searching using a name, include the check for any variation in a name spelling.

The type of information will vary over the decades. Many will have the street addresses. What would be most interesting to check is the different places an ancestor lived over the years.

From there you can do a ‘pay as you go’ subscription, so you can view just those voter registrations you found.

To be added soon will be the 1939 registrations, just before England is at war with Germany.  Eng-Devon South Molton Spring 1924 Folder D1 Image 129
