There has been a good deal of information in newspapers, online and the television about FamilyTreeNow.com and its publishing public information about individuals.
This site is NOT FamilyTree.com (which has been active since 1994). Two different online genealogical sites. The FamilyTreeNow has been providing information (names, addresses, etc) for free.
The site claims it has thousands of records dating back to the 1700s. Not sure, most of the few they have are from the 20th century, with the majority from living individuals.
Check on the site by placing your name to see if there is personal information on you which is in the public domain. You can go to the site of FamilyTreeNow.com and opt out of the site, but it will take about two-three days for it to be complete. To do so, click on the “privacy” link at the bottom of the page on any page of the site, then do a search on your name, then when you choose yourself it should show you your info with the opt-out button at the top of the page. Make sure to also check other family members and your own maiden name.
Again FamilyTree.com is NOT FamilyTreeNow.com.
