Findmypast has Acquired Twile

Twile announced that it has been acquired by Findmypast. The acquisition was first announced at RootsTech 2018. It appears that the two companies have been working together previous to the acquisition.

On February 11, 2016, Twile posted a blog post titled “Twile Partners with Findmypast”. The most relevant part of the post is: “We are delighted to reveal that Twile has secured an investment and partnership deal with leading family history site Findmypast, which is set to open up huge opportunities for us.”

The partnership enabled Twile’s customers access to Findmypast’s rich bank of eight billion records. This helped those customers to expand their family trees and timelines from within Twile. Findmypast customers would be able to display their family trees on Twile’s rich, visual timeline.

On February 28, 2018, Twile posted a blog titled:“Twile joins the Findmypast family”. Part of the blog post said:

“We’re really proud and excited to announce that Twile has today joined the Findmypast family. We’ve worked closely with Findmypast since they invested in Twile in 2016 and are really looking forward to working together even more closely to help families record and share their family history.”

“For now, it’s business as usual, but this acquisition opens up some very exciting opportunities. We’ll keep you updated.”

Findmypast confirmed the “business as usual” for now in a tweet. “Right now, Twile will continue to operate in its current state.”

Findmypast posted a blog post titled “Announcing our recent acquisition of genealogy startup Twile”. Here are some of the most relevant paragraphs from the Findmypast post:

“Creators of the visual family history timeline and winner of two RootsTech innovation awards, Twile have joined the Findmypast family. And we’re just a bit excited to finally be able to announce the good news! This acquisition reflects our drive to innovate and enhance the family history experience by providing new ways to share your family’s stories.”

“Twile’s storytelling features will soon be available on Findmypast, enabling you to automatically display your family history research in a media-rich timeline. Combined with our unrivaled collection of British and Irish records, these new features will enable you to share your discoveries in new and exciting ways.”

“The Twile team will continue to develop and maintain Twile and there are no plans to change the features and services Twile users currently enjoy. Twile co-founder, Paul Brooks, will be overseeing all future integration work and regular updates will be shared with Twile subscribers.”
