Geni Posted a 2020 Year in Review

Geni is a genealogy company that is based in Los Angeles, California. They wrote a blog post titled: “Farewell to 2020” in which they say goodbye to, and reflect on, the year 2020.

Geni solves the problem of genealogy by inviting the world to build the definitive online family tree. You can use the basic free service at Geni.com to add and invite close relatives to join your family tree. Geni also has a Pro subscription service that allows users to find matching trees and merge those into the single family tree, which currently contains over 100 million living users and their ancestors.

Many people stayed home in 2020, due to the pandemic. Doing so has given people the opportunity to work on their genealogy. Geni said it hit a new milestone with over 150 million profiles connected to the World Family Tree. Over 11 million profiles were added in the last year by Geni’s collaborative community of genealogists and family historians.

If you haven’t found your connection to the World Family Tree yet, Geni recommends you keep an eye on those Tree Matches and check out the Connecting to the Big Tree project for help from the community. If you’re already connected to the World Family Tree, then you can help by continuing to build the tree, review your Merge Center, and explore some collaborative resources on Geni.

Geni also made improvements to the HTML version of the family tree. They added new customization options to the HTML version of the family tree. This new feature will allow you to change the font size and the color theme in the tree to better suit your needs. You can choose from a list of available themes or pick your own color by customizing the shades of Geni’s classic colors for male, female, unknown gender, and the background.
