Germany, D-Day & Other Photos

So many of our ancestors were involved directly in the war effort during the 1940s with World War II and even more on the homefront, in the factories and guarding the coastlines. Photos can speak volumes of what life was like some 70 plus years ago.

LIFE Magazine has a nice online collection of photos divided into different topics relating to the Second World War (1939-1945). Topics include: Hitler & Mussolini in 1939, the Battle of Britain, War Nurses, Concentration Camps, Life in Occupied Poland, Battles in North Africa, Women Working in War Factories, War in the Pacific, the A-Bomb, about 40 different photo topics. With each topic the number of photos varies.

Select a topic, click on it and each image appears with a summary of what is in the photo. To go to the next image click on the arrow on the right side of each image. The number of photos for that topic is listed at the top. The image does become large size and you can save it to your computer.

You can also use the Search box at the top to look over all the topics (including other areas covered by LIFE besides WW II) for a certain keyword or place.

Some great photos to view. A few you may have never viewed before.
