How to Find Online Genealogy Websites http://www.familytree.com/blog/how-to-find-online-genealogy-websites/ You can find more How to Blogs at www.FamilyTree.com Those that are brand new to genealogy may find themselves struggling to get started. One easy way to find online genealogy websites is to start with the most popular ones. Check them out and discover which one seems right for you. This blog has some basic information about Ancestry.com, FamilySearch.org, and MyHeritage.com.

There are some extremely popular online genealogy resources that you may want to consider trying. Ancestry.com is one of the most popular, most easily recognized names in online genealogy resources. You may have heard of them due to their involvement in the “Who Do You Think You Are?” TV show, or their current support of a show called “Genealogy Roadshow”.

Ancestry.com will give you a free fourteen day trial to check out their service. You must give them your credit card information in order to start the free trial. However, you won’t be billed unless you decide to keep your membership after the free trial ends. There are several different membership options to choose from. Some are monthly, some are 6-month subscriptions, and each gives you access to a certain amount of what Ancestry.com has to offer.

The most expensive membership is the “World Explorer Plus”. It is for genealogists who want to access the full range of what Ancestry.com can offer. This membership gives a person access to Newspapers.com and Fold3.com, two online genealogy resources that have been purchased by Ancestry.com.

FamilySearch.org is another well known, popular, online genealogy website. It is a service provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. FamilySearch can be used for free by all genealogists. It doesn’t matter what a genealogist’s religion happens to be (or if the genealogist is not religious at all). Everyone is welcome to use the website free of charge. You will not be asked for credit card information when you make a free account at FamilySearch.

FamilySearch uses a lot of volunteers who work hard to add information to the website. The volunteers do a lot of indexing of records. Doing so makes those records searchable online. FamilySearch lets you store photos, stories, documents, audio, albums and can help preserve your family heirlooms.

MyHeritage.com is another online genealogy website that can be used for free. You can import your GEDCOM tree to it and can also download the Family Tree Builder from it. They have billions of records that you can search.

MyHeritage also uses SmartMatches to help find family tree connections between members of MyHeritage. You could get notified about the existence of a relative you never knew about! This online genealogy website can be accessed through your desktop, smartphone, or tablet. They also have DNA kits you can purchase. These kits offer genealogical information (not health information).
