Middle Child Day
Always on August 12th is the annual Middle Child’s Day. This day gives a little well deserved recognition to the wonderful and special middle child in the family.
For parents of three children, you likely know the “Middle Child Syndrome” all too well. If you grew up the middle child with both older and younger siblings, you know the feeling from a very personal perspective.
The first child is the first child. Beyond a doubt, the firstborn is a very special occasion. And he, or she, has all of mom’s and dad’s attention for a while before the second child comes along. The final child is and always will be the ‘baby’ of the family and spoiled.
Older and younger children tend to be more outgoing, or extroverted. The Middle Child tends to be more introverted, quieter, perhaps a bit of a loner.
It is very fair and fitting that we celebrate, and place into the limelight, on the middle child each August 12th. Go out and enjoy this day to the fullest. Tell the world about it. Be a little outspoken, and let the world know how great it is to be the middle child. You truly are a wonderful, talented, and special person!
Most of all, do a vocal recording or write down your own personal experiences of being a middle child. If you have cousins who are middle children, the same thing, have them write out their own experiences. If your parents are living or even grandparents, no matter their family birth order, encourage them to record or write out what it was like growing up as the ‘oldest’, one of many children, a middle child or the youngest.
It doesn’t have to be long or lengthy, even just a few sentences will provide get insight for your family history. My own experience as the ‘oldest’ child was as the one who helped my mother with the younger 3 other children, especially with the youngest. I clearly remember being the one to break the baby of the family of his bottle. I hide it in his diaper pile, I had to be resourceful!
