Ogden Utah Has a FamilySearch Center

FamilySearch announced the opening of a new FamilySearch Center in Ogden, Utah. The Ogden FamilySearch Center is adjacent to the Ogden Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Ogden FamilySearch Center is a 12,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility. It is one of five locations around the United States that offers some of FamilySearch’s signature interactive discovery experience. The center is free to the public.

Families will enjoy discovering their family history and stories together using 11 life-sized interactive media and over 60 patron computers. There are 3 recording studios to capture personal and family memories. In addition to free monthly classes, a staff of over 50 volunteers is ready and willing to make your visit worthwhile. A play area for small children is well-situated so parents can explore their family history without leaving their children unattended.

The center offers free self-help services to covert your personal family archives to digital formats that make them easier to share and preserve.

VHS tapes to DVDs (bring your own DVD blanks)

Books and artifacts with thick bindings to digital

Type-written family histories to PDF files

35mm slides and family photos to digital (includes a rapid, bulk-photo feed capacity)

Photo album or scrapbook pages (software can optionally convert all the photos on a page into individual photos for easier sorting and labeling.)

The Center has a flatbed scanner (for books, documents, certificates, and items with thick bindings). It also has a batch picture scanner – a feed tray which allows items to be scanned much faster than on the flatbed. Their slide scan automatically scans 35mm slides from a standard slide carousel. Their Lexmark Color Copier/Printer/Scanner converts multiple page documents into a single PDF file.
