RootsTech 2018 Announced Lineup of Keynote Speakers



RootsTech 2018 will take place on February 28, 2018, through March 3, 2018. It is the biggest genealogy and technology conference. The Keynote Speakers for RootsTech 2018 have been announced.

The Keynote Speaker on February 28, 2018, is Steve Rockwood. He is the president and CEO of FamilySearch International. He was also the Keynote Speaker for the very first day of RootsTech 2017.

On March 1, 2018, the Keynote Speaker will be Brandon Stanton, a world-renowned photographer and storyteller. He is the creator of “Humans of New York”, a popular photography and storytelling blog, which he started in the summer of 2010. The blog has over 20 million fans on several social media platforms. Brandon Stanton has used the storytelling power of his website to raise money for several life-changing altruistic purposes.

Scott Hamilton will be the Keynote Speaker on March 2, 2018. He is an Olympic champion, cancer survivor, television broadcaster, motivational speaker, author, husband/father, and eternal optimist. Scott Hamilton won an Olympic gold medal in figure skating. In 1990, he was inducted into the United States Olympic Hall of Fame, and also became a member of the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.

He launched the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation (Cancer Alliance for Research, Education and Survivorship) in 2014, after his mother passed away from cancer, and after he survived cancer. The foundation’s mission is to improve cancer research and the highest quality patient treatment and care.

On March 3, 2018, Henry Louis Gates, Jr. will be the Keynote Speaker. Genealogists will recognize his name. His groundbreaking genealogy series, “Finding Your Roots” is on PBS and now in its fourth season.

Henry Louis Gates Jr, is the Alphonse Fletcher University Professor and Director of the Hutchins Center for African American Research at Harvard University. He has authored or co-authored 22 books and created 18 documentary films. He wrote, executive produced, and hosted “The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross” in 2013, and earned the Emmy award for Outstanding Historical Program – Long Form, as well as the Peabody Award, Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Award, and NAACP Image Award.

Natalia Lafourcade will also be a Keynote Speaker on March 3, 2018. She is a Mexican pop-rock singer and songwriter who was nominated for a Latin Grammy in the Best New Artist category for her debut album in 2003. She was born in Mexico City, Mexico, to musician parents. She is recognized from the Americas to Europe to Asia, with audiences in all corners of the globe.
