Islamic Genealogy

Based on the Islam religion of the Arabia region in the 5th century, those who were followers were called Muslims. As the Islamic religion spread to other regions beyond the Arabian area it assimilated many aspects of the other cultures.

To speak of Islamic culture is to include all the practices of the religion of Islam. The rituals of the religion also are tied to daily life. Islamic is related to the language of Arabic, to literature, to music, families, art and architecture.

Families and especially marriage are of the paramount importance in the culture. In Islamic genealogy, marriage is recognized as a legal bond as well as a social contract. Both husband and wife act as each other’s protector and comforter. The tradition of the Islamic marriage continues that a husband is given authority within the household because he has the greater responsibilities, which include taking care of the woman who has become his wife, and that he also provides financial support to her. Wives are expected to be obedient to their husbands. On the other hand, men are expected to safeguard their women.

Most Islamic art has been focused on Allah, the Arabic name for God, but solely done as geometric patterns rather than a portrait. The written book of religious teachings is the Quran, the instructional book for the Islamic life and faith. In architectural styles, structures with courtyards, towers, niches, and domes are all related to the Islamic mosque (religious structure) to convey power. In music, whether sung or played, it is of a religious tone.

The Halal refers to the chosen food that is permitted according to Islamic law. Those foods seen as harmful for humans, as based on the Quran, include pork, alcohol and food not prepared properly in the name of Allah. Part of the reason for care in the food preparation goes with the belief that all animals should be treated with respect and well cared for. The goal is to slaughter the animal, limiting the amount of pain the animal will endure.

Central in looking at Islamic genealogy is examining the beliefs in morality and simplicity. The people fulfill their roles in life to create a stable Islamic family which together and other such families form a stable Islamic community. Everyone will be modest in appearance with the body covered.

In one’s daily life, the Muslim should be kind and gentle with others. Silence is preferred to unnecessary speaking. In following Islamic culture, all aspects of life a Muslim must exercise moderation and be natural; unnaturalness and exaggeration are rejected.
