Family Activities

Do you know a family that is just crazy about soccer? Or maybe you know a family that just loves to fish together? So many families have activities that they are more commonly drawn to, and that is part of what makes that family special. I know a family where every child was involved in baseball. The parents loved it, and it was a family affair to go to every game.

My husband’s family would probably joke that their family activity was visiting graveyards. My father in law loves genealogy, and dragged his kids many times out to graveyards on “family vacation” in order to find a deceased relative. Many of their family slides have pictures of gravestones mixed in with the rest.

Whatever activity it is that makes your family unique should be documented. Maybe it is a love of camping, or just singing songs around the piano in the evenings. Perhaps it is a sport, or just hanging out and watching movies together. Whatever it is that you do together as a family is something worth scrapbooking about!

vPerhaps you are having a hard time thinking of one. It can be an obvious activity or a simple one. One thing I always think of when I think of my own family in childhood was when my Grandmother would come over for dinner on Sunday evenings. After dinner, it was a favorite past time of hers and ours to play the card game, Spades. It was a tradition, and an activity that we did almost every Sunday night. As a result, we learned to play a fun card game, and got to spend time together laughing and playing. Now that she is gone, I look back at that time and feel sad she is no longer with us, but at the same time, treasure those moments we got to spend with her. From now on, any time I play a card game, I will think of those moments and my grandmother.

So, take a picture when your family is involved in one of their favorite activities. Even if it is just everyone sitting on the couch watching a movie and eating popcorn. Then, scrapbook that page and journal all about what your favorite memories are of those times. This will be a page to remember!

As I have a family of my own, with two small children, and one on the way, I wonder what kinds of things we will do with our children as they get older. What will they think of when they think of the activities that we always did together? That is the beauty of having a family, you get to create your own family traditions and activities along the way!
