Do you have a hidden talent? Lots of people do. I think of my own family and there are lots of talents there. I look at my great-grandmother, for example. She was a painter. I own only one of her paintings, but have seen many of them. Looking at her during the last years of her life (she lived to be 105) the average person may never have known that she could paint seeing as she didn’t do it later in life. What a shame that some talents may be never known about if they are not recorded!!
Scrapbooking your heritage can be a way to preserve those talents that may be hidden or not hidden. Maybe you don’t think you have a talent? I would venture to say that pretty much everyone has a talent of some kind or another. Sure, you don’t have to be a talented artist or singer, but everyone has something special inside them that is unique to who they are.
Why not scrapbook a page about yourself or your family member’s hidden or not so hidden talents? I think of someone like my sister. One of her talents is singing. You may think that you could not scrapbook a page about this because you cannot possibly capture her voice in a scrapbook page. Well, this is true, but there are many ways you could scrapbook about a singing talent. For example, scrapbook lyrics to some of her favorite songs with a picture of her singing. Journal about what people always said about her singing talent, compliments she got, or how you felt listening to her. That is just one way to capture a talent like this.
When thinking of scrapbooking hidden talents, think outside the box. Of course there are the obvious talents such as art, dance, music, etc. But, what about the not so obvious? Maybe you had an Aunt that always made you feel loved and important. That is a talent that she had that affected your life. Or, maybe someone in your family was a fabulous mother that could be an example to other moms? That is truly a talent!
I think of some of my early ancestors and wonder, “What were their talents?” Maybe there was someone that was an expert at baking, or sewing, or someone that excelled in serving others. I sure wish I knew about those talents! You never know, it might just give you an insight into where you got your talents. So, since it might be difficult to uncover hidden talents from our ancestors, start by scrapbooking the talents of those around you right now. Your posterity will love to read about what kind of talent their family had, and possibly, who they got their talents from!
